Visual Impairment

The changes I have made to Microsoft word will benefit the child in that he will be able to see the screen and work a lot better as he has a visual impairment. There will have been a considerable difference in that when I minimized the ribbon, it made the screen bigger which will help him work better. As the boy has a visual impairment, a shortcut could be vital in doing his work, so what I have done is added font to the quick access toolbar so he only has to go through two steps, rather than five. White and black might not be the easiest font and page colour to see. So I changed the page colour too blue and the font colour too white and hope this helps him see better.

Ease of Access

Narrator

Narrator is very good as it gives an audio description as to what is on the screen and what you are writing. It can be used for most programs and accessories. This will help someone who is visually impaired a lot. It is quite easy to use and the voice is easy to understand. when you have selected to use the narrator accessory, you are able to change the voice settings. You are able to change the voice and change the volume of the voice. It can be designed to what way suits you.

Magnifier

The magnifier tool is very helpful in helping the boy being able to do his work. It is very easy to use and can be set up within minutes. All that has too be done is click on the magnifier accessory and it’s instantly makes the screen bigger. This would probably be the most beneficial as it is quick and easy and he is able to see the screen better. When the magnifier is selected, the screen will instantly increase and the magnifier will appear. There are three different views which include full screen, lens and docked.

On screen Keyboard
This is also important as the boy might find it difficult to see what letters are on which keys. With one click of a button the on screen keyboard will appear and is easy to use. Although it might take longer to type, it is easier too use.

Mouse Settings

In the mouse settings, you are able to change things like the speed of the mouse.
For someone that is visually impaired, the speed could be very important in that if its too fast they wont be able to see it.
